Drawing from the fields of psychology and neuroscience and from the worlds of theater, philosophy , history, and education, Brooks presents a hopeful, integrated approach to human connection in this era of polarization. He challenges us to become more understanding and considerate toward others as a remedy for a society that is riven by fragmentation, hostility, and misperception. He asks us to engage the inspiring question: How can we look somebody in the eye and see something large in them, and in turn, see something larger in ourselves?
As part of Boise State University’s Distinguished Lecture Series, the Institute for Advancing American Values will host a Civic Engagement Fair in ExtraMile Arena after David Brooks concludes his remarks.
The Institute for Advancing American Values sponsors and presents Boise State University’s Distinguished Lecture Series. Twice a year, the Series brings eminent speakers to Boise State from the realm of politics, academics, and humanitarian activism to promote the discussion of important issues.
